A.R.E. 4.0 was released July 2008. The ARE is now composed of SEVEN exam division:

http://www.ncarb.org When is the exam? How often do they hold the exam? ARE is composed of (7) computer based exams. Exams are scheduled by you any day of the year once you receive authorization to test from your state board. It is scheduled through Prometric, a computer exam center.

What degree do I need to become licensed?
Most state boards require you to hold a NAAB accredited 1st Professional Degree in Architecture and have completed IDP prior to testing. Some boards allow conxurrent testing while completing IDP
Some state boards will accept experience in lue of a degree.

If I pass the ARE what would be other requirements to get the license?
If you start testing now, you may need to complete the IDP( in California you also need CIDP + California Supplemental)
Would it be valid let's say for another 3 years when I get enough experience to be licensed?
Your exam score is valid for good if you complete all (7) divisions within
a 5-year period. If you only pass a portion of the (7) divisions, you will have
to retake these portions if you have not completed all (7) divisions within 5-years.
